While visiting Big South Fork National Recreation Area, we decided to take a day trip to Cumberland Falls State Resort Park near Corbin, Kentucky. This place has been on my bucket list for some time now since it is described as the “Niagara of the South”.
We visited on a Tuesday which meant that the park was pretty empty. I bet on the weekends this park is packed! After parking, we made our way along the river where a Gift Shop and Snack Bar welcome you. From here, there is a really nice path that parallels the river. There are multiple overlooks; each with its’ own vantage point.
The falls span the Cumberland River and are 65 feet high and 125 feet wide. We made our way down to the beach area and then climbed on the rocks to the left of the beach to get an even better view of the falls.
Since it was hot out, we stopped at the Snack Bar and got an ice cream cone and even El got to enjoy a small piece.
We also walked around on the flat rocks above the falls and took in the views of the river.
I loved this park and the waterfall is stunning! Be sure to check it out if you are ever in the area of Corbin, Kentucky. I highly recommend it!
Looks impressive! Sorry we missed that when we visited Cumberland Gap last summer. Next time for sure.
