While exploring the Shawnee National Forest, we stopped at Ferne Clyffe State Park near Goreville, Illinois. We did not have much time to spend at this park, so we walked the .75 mile Big Rocky Hollow trail back to the base of the waterfall.
We were there in the summer months so there was not a lot of water flowing from the waterfall, but it was still beautiful. The hike back to the waterfall is really nice too since it follows a serene creek.
Ferne Clyffe has many more hiking trails to enjoy that feature vistas, shelter bluffs and interesting rock formations. Be sure to check them out!
