Route 66 – Illinois

We took a drive to Auburn, Illinois to visit part of the original Route 66. This hand-laid brick section of Route 66 stretches for 1.4 miles and is just west of State Route 4. In November 1926, this road became part of the iconic Route 66 that stretched from Chicago to Santa Monica.

Take a drive and visit this special place that is hiding in the middle of Illinois’ rolling farm fields and picture what it once used to be. Since we were traveling back towards St. Louis, we enjoyed a slower paced drive along Route 4 through the small towns. I couldn’t help but think of the Pixar animated movie, Cars.
