I am always up for checking out new things. Casey, Illinois is a small town along Interstate 70 between Effingham, Illinois and Terre Haute, Indiana. It is best known for its’ “Big Things in a Small Town’. While driving back from our camping adventure at Turkey Run State Park in Indiana, we pulled off to stretch out legs and check out this quaint town.

All attractions are free to visit! Several of the items are even considered the World’s Largest like the knitting needle, golf tee, wind chime, wooden shoes, mailbox and rocking chair.

My favorite was the wind chime! The sound was so peaceful.

There are also other very large items in Casey, but not quite big enough to be the world’s largest. We also saw the pencil, ruler, and bird cage!

Overall, this is a neat attraction that is worth a stop!

UPDATE! AUGUST 2026

I visited Casey, Illinois for a second time in August 2026 with the Girl Camper group! I also learned that you pronounce the name with a long z like Cay-zee instead of Cay-see. =)

A few more things to add about this unique little town.

-Purchase a postcard beneath the mailbox in the candy store and then climb the stairs to the top of the mailbox and deposit your mail. The flag actually raises on the outside of the mailbox!

-I heard the Mexican restaurant has really good drinks…I wouldn’t know but I saw some pictures LOL

Grab a map at the Visitor’s Center so you know where all the big things are at!

We were camping at Lincoln Trail State Park, you can see my post HERE, and we made a day trip to Casey. On the way, we stopped at the iconic tourist destination – The Moonshine Restaurant in Martinsville, IL. They are famous for their hamburgers on the griddle and all the toppings.

It was a really cool place to stop, but you have to plan accordingly, the grill closes as 12:30 sharp and they only sell lunch type food. We had hamburgers for breakfast! Might as well right?!?!

All in all, another cool place to cross of the list! Happy travels!
