While traveling to Spring Mill State Park, I crossed the Illinois/Indiana state line in Vincennes, Indiana. I always like to break up my drives, so I stopped at Fort Knox II – Vincennes State Historic Site. It’s only about 5 minutes off US Highway 50.

There was no one there while I was there, so I just walked about and explored the small site. In this area, three military posts used to stand in the late 1700s through the early 1800s. This was the site of the second fort.

This site sits high above the Wabash River and was very peaceful. There were a lot of signs to learn about the site.

I thought it would have something to do with what we know today as Fort Knox, where gold reserves are kept, and while they are both military posts, I didn’t see that they were related.
It’s a great historic stop if you are looking for something near Vincennes! Dogs are also allowed at this site!
Nice! Another little historical site I’ve not been to but now feel I have seen. Thanks!
