The Forgotten Coast – Florida

We took a blended family vacation in October to Cape San Blas, Florida. It has been several years since I had been to the beach so we were really looking forward to this vacation and just relaxing.

Cape San Blas is located on the panhandle of Florida, but it is unique since it is a peninsula that is bordered by the Gulf of Mexico on one side and St. Joseph Bay on the other.

We had heard that the water was a bit cloudy and the beach was a bit bare since a few hurricanes had come through lately, but I still thought it was beautiful.

I will be the first to admit that I am not much of a beach person so I want to always be exploring, but each day most of us headed down to the beach in the afternoon and just enjoyed the sun and relaxing. We would watch the sun set over the Gulf of Mexico. It was so peaceful.

While we did go in the off season, I think one of the things I liked the most about Cape San Blas was that it felt far less touristy than other beaches I have been to before. This is why the area gets its’ name “The Forgotten Coast”.

Of course we had to squeeze in a hike! At the end of the peninsula is T.H. Stone Memorial St. Joseph Peninsula State Park. You can check out my blog post HERE!

One of the largest towns near Cape San Blas is Port Saint Joe. We took a drive here and visited the light house. It cost $5 to go up to the top!

From there, we drove up the coast to Mexico Beach to visit Forgotten Coast Brewery and along the way, we found the large beach chair that marks the time change! Cape San Blas is in the Eastern Time Zone while Mexico Beach is in Central Time Zone!

The Cape San Blas crew below! We tie dyed shirts!

We had a really great time and it was so nice to just relax and recharge. We hope to be back, Cape San Blas!

  1. As part of this crew, I especially enjoyed shell hunting on the beautiful white sands. The sunsets were stunning. I’m not much of a sun worshiper but this was a great place to relax & be with family!
