Cades Cove is a beautiful 11 mile one-way scenic loop situated in a valley. The loop is closed to vehicular traffic on Saturdays and Wednesdays during the tourist season. We decided to bike Cades Cove to get an up close and personal view of this historic area.
I bought a Cades Cove Tour book for $1 online and it described the rich history of Cades Cove and the buildings as well. The area was developed in the early 1800’s as a farming community.
About half way through the loop is the Cable Mill area. We parked our bikes and explored this area on foot. I loved seeing the mill and flume.
There are a lot of historic structures on the back half of the loop.
I highly recommend biking the loop if possible. I feel like by touring in a car, you wouldn’t get that magical feeling that Cades Cove offers. There are a lot of hills though! Be sure to check this area out!
Beautiful – never been to that area. Looks like I need to plan a visit – love those old buildings. Unfortunate that they may not be around for much longer. You just don’t see them much anymore. Thanks for sharing
