McCormick’s Creek State Park – Indiana

We visited McCormick’s Creek State Park in September 2011 and it was another great example of Indiana’s state parks. McCormick’s Creek is located south of Interstate 70 near Spencer, Indiana. We took a little detour here while we were heading towards Turkey Run State Park and Shades State Park. Per the website, this is Indiana’s first state park. We took the park road over McCormick’s Creek and parked at the Wolf Cave parking lot. Our first trail of the day was Trail 7 which we took from the parking lot. This trail is a loop which hiked counter-clockwise along the White River. White River McCormicks Creek At the next intersection, we crossed McCormick’s creek and checked out the old quarry site. Rocks from this area were used to build Indiana’s Statehouse. McCormicks State Park We took the connector trail up the ginormous staircase back to the parking lot where we began. McCormicks Creek Stairs The next leg of the hike was on Trail 3. This trail is less than a mile long, but packs a lot of scenery into this short loop. The trail leads down into the canyon and along the creek, and finally to the Falls. Fluctuating water levels may make parts of this trail inaccessible. Additional amenities include a campground, lodge, tennis courts, playground, saddle barn, and a swimming pool. McCormick’s Creek is a great park! Check out the Indiana’s Department of Natural Resources website for more information. They also have a great brochure on their website with the map below and a great description of all the trails. 1. Nice to see this park covered here! You really picked a good area of the state to visit. I also highly recommend Clifty Falls – would be good to pair with a trip to the more famous Red River Gorge area of Kentucky if you ever head that way.

    • Thanks for the comment David! Clifty Falls is actually on my list of places to go! We had it planned for last year, but it did not work out =( Wanting to go hopefully in the spring when the falls are running. I will have to check out the Red River Gorge! Sounds amazing! Thanks again for checking out the blog!
