Wadsworth Falls State Park – Connecticut

While in Connecticut for work, I took a quick trip to Wadsworth Falls State Park which is located just 20 minutes south of Hartford.

The trail starts out from the main parking lot and heads through a picnic area. I stayed on the main trail which is orange on the map below. I really liked how the map was accurate and easy to follow.

After passing the giant laurel tree, further down the orange trail, I took the blue trail to the Little Falls. This waterfall was tall and you can climb the trail to the right up to the top!

From here, I picked the orange trail back up. Further down, the orange trail ends and you walk along the side of the road and over some railroad tracks to reach Wadsworth Falls.

What I didn’t realize is that there is a parking lot at these falls. Oh well! I am glad I hiked the trail and didn’t park at the falls.

A short trail leads to the base of the falls which are incredibly beautiful. I walked on the rock ledge to get a bit closer.

There is also an overlook right above the top of the waterfall which gives you another great view of the falls.

After spending a bit of time enjoying the view, I headed back the way I came.

There is also a large beach area back near the main parking lot.

Also, I am a huge supporter of “Leave no trace” but whoever put these inspiring rocks along the main trail, thank you!! I had so much fun looking for them.

Just a note that out of state vehicles must pay an entrance fee so be sure to follow that process. I paid online before hiking, but missed a step to put a tag in my windshield so once I hiked back to my car, I had a ticket saying I needed to pay. I found a ranger and explained that I had paid and he was very friendly and removed my ticket 🙂

This is a great Connecticut state park! Be sure to check it out if you are hear Hartford!
