Penwood State Park – Connecticut

I was trying to make the most of my time in Connecticut since I had to travel there for work a couple times this year. After work one day, I met up with a coworker and we checked out Penwood State Park in Bloomfield. From the parking lot, we took the “paved” trail on the left. On the map below, this is the black trail between the yellow and blue trail. The trail leads through the forest and then when it reaches Lake Louise, it turns sharply to the right.

Rather than continue on the paved trail, we stayed on the unmarked trail straight ahead and then hopped on the blue trail. I had previously seen posts about people hiking to the “Pinnacle”, but was unsure exactly where that was at. We thought we were on the right track as the blue trail becomes rocky and steep.

The trail then meets up with a road and the blue trail continues to the left. After just a short distance, we realized we reached the Pinnacle! It is the “scenic view” icon on the map below.

The hike was totally worth it. The views were amazing! We could even see the Hueblin Tower which I visited earlier in the year! It is pretty small in the picture below, but it is there on the left!

The sun was starting to set so we headed back down, but decided to take a different route. The colors were gorgeous! We took the road down to Lake Louise and then stayed on the blue trail.

The blue trail winds through the forest. We were hiking quickly due to the sun setting, but I loved this grove of trees and we also spotted a deer!

Overall, this was an awesome hike with a great view. If you are ever in this area, be sure to check it out!
