Talcott Mountain State Park – Connecticut

Over the course of 2024, I have the opportunity with work to travel to Connecticut four times. My first trip was in May and even though it was a work trip, I had to squeeze in a hike at a new spot!

Located near Hartford, Connecticut, the Heublein Tower trail within Talcott Mountain State Park was highly recommended. The trail starts out from a parking lot not far from the park entrance.

A 1.25 mile hike leads to the top where the Heublein Tower sits. The first quarter mile of the trail is extremely steep!! But once you make it past that part, it is more of a gradual climb and the views are worth it!

The history behind the 165 foot tower is kind of cute. Gilbert Heublein was hiking with his fiancé and promised her that he would build her a castle on Talcott Mountain. Interesting fact: Mr. Heublein was most famous for the importing and exporting of foreign foods like Smirnoff Vodka and A-1 Steak Sauce! The tower is open periodically which also contains a museum.

The trail is an out and back and once you are done at the top, you hike back to your car the same way.

This seems like a popular trail as even on a Monday after work, the parking lot was full and I passed a lot of people on the trail.

I really enjoyed this trail so be sure to check it out!
